Love And Let Love

We all perceive love differently. For some, it is a way of life, for some it is a part of life, for some it is life itself. I first came to know about Valentine’s Day in the seventh grade and fourteenth of February was never the same again. With each passing year, my friends and I would eagerly look forward to V-Day since the first of the month. Back in school, my perception of love was to have a boyfriend who would take me out on dates, buy me cute gifts, chocolates, flowers and call me up every other minute!

Over time, my definition of love has changed, with a clause being added to or removed from it now and then. But one thing I still believe in after all these years is that love is omnipotent. It can heal, it can soothe, it can awaken, it can bring a smile to parched lips. Whatever it is capable of doing, love can never hurt. As a friend told me, it is we people who accuse love of being able to hurt when we lose it, whatever the reason. It is we who harm love, not the other way around.

Those who are in love are lucky, those who remain in love are luckier still. There are many who dream of the perfect love, and spend their lifetime looking for it. Love is only as perfect as we make it, it does not come with a guarantee watermark. Any relationship or marriage needs a lot of hard work and effort from both sides, for no good thing comes easy in life. When someone announces their marriage, one of the first things asked is whether it is love or arranged. How does it matter as long as the husband and wife paint it with shades of love.

Coming back to Valentine’s Day, it is a day to not only celebrate that special someone in our life but to celebrate love itself, and that includes all our loved ones. Though one specific day in the calendar is not enough to show some love to those who matter, it is a reminder for them who fail to do so most of the time. It is a different thing that love is being treated as a commodity, a means of increasing the sales of a variety of companies that cater to love and love related needs, but somehow the magic of V-Day does not fail to touch people even today.

It is sad how some people are so against love and are out to destroy it in the name of religion, terrorism, culture, and what not. Somehow I feel pity for them above anything else, 'cause they are devoid of, or have killed, such a beautiful emotion that God has blessed us all with. Love can never be confined nor banished, the more it is suppressed the more it will grow, coming back stronger than before, like the never ending tide of the ocean. We are all born with this power, and that is what makes love monumental - so beautiful, natural and universal.

This Valentine's, let us resolve to show some love; first and foremost to ourselves -to love another, we need to love our own self first- to our loved ones, and to those who need it. Just a smile, a gesture, a kind word, and most important, a bit of our time - it does not take much. Love comes back manifold when one gives with an open heart. No harm can befall a soul whose heart harbors this miracle of life. The choice is ours, to live life or to live a life filled with love. Happy Valentine's to all of you!
