Green Dreams

Looking out her window, she saw the world passing by. A world where she felt like an alien. They looked and spoke like her, yet there was something that held her back from calling herself one of them. She had moved here two summers ago, to live her dreams, but had not been able to savor anything truly, not here in this land she had fancied for ages. She was not ungrateful, this place had given her a lot of comfort, luxury and other delights. Yet, there was something missing amidst it all. Each day she would wake up with new hopes and dreams, brimming with energy to make a difference, but by night they all faded away, becoming a part of that huge void within.

She knew this could not go on forever, the indecisiveness and uncertainty. But she was torn in between two worlds, both of which she was obliged to. With passing time, she realized that she could put away her decision no longer. Closing her eyes, she contemplated, and listened to the discourse of her heart and mind. The compass of her soul was pointing to a faraway land beyond the seas. A land which reeked with the smell of earth and sweat, yet pleasing in its own way. Its diverse ways so baffling yet making a lot of sense. A land drenched in hues of saffron, white and green, gravid with culture, heritage and prosperity.

Opening her eyes, she watched the last rays of the sun fade away into the horizon. She smiled, knowing the choice had been made. Looking out the window, she saw the world passing by. They were beckoning warmly, asking her to be a part of them. Maybe she would, if she stayed here longer. But that was not to be, for she had a guiding light in her heart. A light that glowed with hues of the tricolor, bathing her in its warm glow, summoning her back to where she belonged, where could be fulfilled her green dreams.

Like they say home is where the heart is, only there we feel like we belong. And since her heart is in that faraway land.. she made a right choice.

I think it's also a dream of your soul to go back to your own land of lush greens and healthy vegetation. That would probably be fulfilled after your marriage when you don't have to work in a far away country of different religious and cultural background. It's the musing of one's soul to be where the delight of the eyes and the heart is- your native land. Thanks for the poignant post. God bless you always my friend.

*~*{Sameera}*~* said...

You are partly right my friend. Thanks for the thoughtful comment,as always.

God Bless You and your loved ones always dear Mel.

Sameera, I really enjoyed your Clarity entry, and I really appreciated your comment AND I was glad to see your company as I worked through the contest. This beautiful story and imagery is marvelous. I loved the dreamy quality, and I had that thought as she was dreaming "The Grass is Always Greener..." so I'm glad she made the choice to stay. It is always better to follow the light in our hearts then to chase some fanciful dream of escape. Nice to meet you here, a delightful blog!

Catvibe said...

Oh my goodness I just reread your story and see I missed a sentence in the end which completely changes everything! See, I need more coffee! In any case, my answer is still the same, although it seems she made the choice to escape before and now she wants to return to where her heart is living. I can completely relate to that, and I imagine when she returns she will be so much stronger in resolve to be there.

Where did she come from, Sameera? Not from Moon, I guess :))

The 'she' struck a chord with me...But when a stiuation that " this could not go on forever, the indecisiveness and uncertainty" ---

I take MY decision..and that 'could' be the end of all "uncertainty" unless God wills otherwise :)

Good diction, Sameera

Reminded me of a kannada poem by Gopla krishna Adiga which can be translated like that,
"Which Mohan's (trance filled) flute took you away to the far shores?
Which Brindavna (magical garden) attracted your eye of mud?
......
To yearn for what does not exist, and to shun all that does.. that's life!"
