In life, many come and go. Those who leave a mark in our memories are one of a kind. Because they made a difference knowingly or otherwise, in some way or the other, even if they are no more a part of the story. Whatever they were capable of they gave, and took as well. All relationships have rifts, what matters is how we manage to seal them, sooner or later. Sometimes, even the most strongest of love is not sufficient to bring back that magic, and when it is lost, it is just lost. No amount of tears, words, or support can heal the wound it leaves behind. Initially there is the shock of having to come to terms with the fact that someone who really mattered, and even worse, who really cared for us, has drifted away. Then comes a phase of just being comfortably numb, where even though we cringe inside at the very mention of that name, on the surface we are all aloof. To the world, all that we have left for that person is hate, but deep within that love never died in the first place. Over time, we learn to live without them, and the pangs which the memories bring gradually lessen. No matter what the reason for drifting apart, be it due to internal or external factors, we can never help admitting at least to ourselves that the one who we lost is irreplaceable, and that gaping void can never be filled by any other, because at the end of the day, no two people are the same. We are just human and the fact that we miss a loved one we lost, makes us all the more so. Ego kills love, and it is that very ego which prevents us from getting it back again. Be it our own parents, or a friend, or that special someone, if we truly love them, we need to put down our pride once in a while and go get them back. For all we know, sometimes it could be too late to make amends. Everyone lets us down, no matter how much they love us, because no one is perfect. It is not worth lamenting for the rest of our lives over whom we lost in spite of having had a chance to bring them back when we should have, just because our ego froze the heart that moment and stopped our initiative. And when we fail to dampen that ego, we just start to resent love. That is the day we cease to live and start to simply exist.
If there is anything which can never be too much in today's world, it is love. With all the hate and violence looming large over mankind, threatening to throttle humanity, if there is something
which can extinguish it, it is love. It does not take much, just a few words, or a small gesture, to spread some light in someone's world. Why not work upon it right from today, beginning now? If there is someone you love who drifted away, go get them back, if not for themselves, for you. Because it is you who misses them, you who loves them, and your life which is incomplete without them. Just put that ego on hold and give love a chance. Only a heart made of stone could shy away when love extends a hand. No love is perfect, it can never be. All it takes is that little extra effort to salvage it, and in case of those who lost it, to bring it back. Someone once said, "It is better to have tried and lost than not to have tried at all". And love's labor is never lost.
